Report on Quantitative Reasoning in Pomona (PDF)

    What is the definition of Quantitative Reasoning?
    Its not just math, but the application of numbers to the real world
    It is the application of real world skills, the ability to use communication about real math
    Could use quantitative reasoning in many areas, statistics, economics, etc.
    How can we assess this skill?  Where do we put it? 

Review of Self-Study Template (Draft)

  • Distribution of Program Review template (draft) to provide an overview of writing the self study.  Under each category, there are suggested questions to answer.
  • Discussion on process:  Plans to write self-study in winter/spring (2014), and plan for site-visit in fall 2014.  Committee will nominate two external reviewers and one internal reviewer. Action planning scheduled for spring 2015

Business

  • Building the questions for the Student Survey component of the GE self-study
  • Distribution of examples of previous faculty surveys at Cal Poly, sample of student survey from CSU Chico.  GE board members will review and will continue discussion next week.

    What do we want to find out?
    What is the student's overall satisfaction with GE?  To what extent to they value their experience?  How applicable are your GE classes to your future?
    Are there any negative perceptions of GE?  If so, where?
    Are Cal Poly students taking GE classes online, off campus?
    How do GE classes support the major?
    What would be one recommendation to improve GE?
