Announcements

• Dan Melzer, author of Writing Across the Curriculum: A National Study of College Writing will be visiting Cal Poly on May 28 and May 29, 2015.  He will present a keynote on Thursday, May 28 from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm.  He will also facilitate three faculty workshops on Thursday and Friday.  For more information and registration, see CTLT's web site.

Discussion and Comments on Mapping the GE courses to the PLOs

• GE course proposals and course descriptions can be used as a reference for the exercise.
• GE course proposals are archived on the General Education PolyLearn site.
• Two GE documents, the course descriptions and the mapping chart are in the GEGB briefcase.

Mapping Processes/Clarifications

- When mapping, the focus should be on how the courses currently address the PLOs, and address the structure of the curriculum as it is designed.
- Our next steps may include "demonstrating how the PLOs are being used.
- We also want to identify the "gaps" in the curriculum. 
- Next steps could also include adding the PLOs to the course proposal
-How will we distinguish between the PLOs and the course objectives and criteria in the course proposal?
-Some courses may only address one PLO, which is okay
-The goal is for all of the PLOs to be addressed when a student is finished with GE.
- How do we approach mapping GE support courses vs. non- GE support courses?
- How do we clarify PLOs written from an aspirational approach. 
- How do we address the breadth and the foundational skills differently?

How do students select GE?  Do they self-select?  Is it based on support?

Discussion for next meeting will address three questions
1) Where is GE working well?
2) Where do we want to grow/How do we address those problems?
3) What could GE be/What are the paths we could take?
