  • ACTION: The GE Program Review report is now posted on the GE web site.  All concerns discussed by the GEGB were addressed.

Discussion of GEGB Program Review Document

How will we communicate/present document to the campus?

  • Would we want to talk with the Academic Senate about having this report as a topic for the Academic Senate retreat in the fall?
  • Do we want to send the information to the ASI board?
  • Do we want to send to the Mustang Daily?
  • Do we want to distribute to Associate Deans and Deans?
  • When we distribute the report, we should include the self study with the report.
  • How can we provide campus conversation about the document?
  • Can we utilize CTLT as a venue for a workshop to discuss the document?
  • Josh - Before sending out the document, he wants to set up the next steps which involve task force recommendations.
  • How are we going to receive reactions from campus about the document?

Action Items: Deadlines for Top Priorities (Next week)

We need to finalize our recommendations for the GE task force, including the make up of the group, and set the language for the charge.

Are there any other recommendations, in addition to the items discussed at the April 19 meeting?

  • We need to address the perceived difficulty of getting GE classes several factors.  Is it real or perceived?  We should review the GE enrollment data.
  • We need to relook at Area F.
  • ACTION:  Josh will present the collective top priorities on May 10th.

Recommendations on Make up of GE Task Force

  • We need a chair of the task force, someone neutral/independent
  • Current GEGB Chair
  • Ex offico member - GE administrative support coordinator
  • Director of Writing Program
  • Representative from the Office of the Registrar
  • 3 Students representing alternative views (Example LAES); Could we include a recent graduate?  One of the students should be a transfer student.
  • Should we include the Academic Senate Curriculum Chair or a representative from that group?
  • We need one faculty member from each college. (confirmed by AS Executive committee).
  • We need representatives from each GE area (A-F)
  • Members on the task force should have some in-depth knowledge of GE areas and involvement with curriculum.  They should be faculty members with a broad perspective.
  • Advising representative
  • Career Services representative
  • International Center representative
  • OUDI representative

Other Considerations/Comments

  • If we have a very large group, we will need to break down in smaller groups to make progress on issues (possibly 5-8 people)
  • Some of the representatives could cover multiple criteria. (For instance, faculty member could represent diversity or ASCC).
  • We still need to develop the language for the charge.
ACTION: Josh will bring charge language from the Semester Task Force as an example to start from.
  • Can we possibly circulate some draft language prior to the next meeting?
